AMC（American Mathematics Competitions）是美國數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)活動的簡稱，包括AMC8（初一和初二參加）、AMC10、AMC12三個年級；類似于中國的全國初中數(shù)學(xué)聯(lián)賽和全國高中數(shù)學(xué)聯(lián)賽。是美國最有影響力的全國性數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)活動，AMC學(xué)術(shù)活動獲獎對于申請美國頂尖大學(xué)讀本科非常有幫助。

美國數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)會對于AMC8有一段官方介紹，具體如下：

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills.

The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Students apply classroom skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment.

AMC8有25道選擇題，要求在40分鐘完成。AMC8的前身為 AmericanJunior High School Mathematics Examination (AJHSME)，1999年正式改名為AMC8，和高中的AMC10/AMC12保持一致的命名規(guī)則。

雖然美國IMO國家隊在近幾年的IMO比賽中成績優(yōu)異，多次獲得團體第一。但與我們最初的印象一致，AMC8試題的整體難度，相比中國的初中數(shù)學(xué)聯(lián)賽難度還是有不少差距，甚至不如中國的華羅庚金杯小學(xué)組的難度。

以1999年的試卷為例，雖然考察了許多重要的知識點，但整體難度，對于許多中國6年級學(xué)生來講，都是足以應(yīng)付的。所以，這篇文章只選擇最后的2題展示一下，讓讀者對于1999年的AMC8的難度有一個初步了解。
