ISSCY聯合國高中人文社科寫作比賽是一個面向全世界高中生的研究學術活動，由聯合國協會世界聯合會（WFUNA）、美國青年會（YOUTHECA USA）等其他全球非政府組織共同主辦和贊助的，作為高度競爭的活動項目，此學術活動難度大，評選過程嚴謹、周期長，每年在全球僅評選出約80篇的研究性論文，最終發布在ISSCY在線雜志上。

1.How Does the COVID-19 Pandemic Impact Trade in Sub-Saharan Africa？

Abstract
In this paper,I examine the impacts of the recession induced by the COVID-19 pandemic on trade volume between Sub-Saharan African countries and the United States.I focus on African countries who had an active trade partnership with the United States before the pandemic due to their participation in the African Growth and Opportunity Act(AGOA).To evaluate the impact of this global recession,I use regression analvsis to understand the sensitivitv ofbilateral trade with respect to each partners’GDP.Specifically,I employ annual data since 2000 from the World Bank's World Development Indicators as well as the United Nations‘Contrade and apply it to test the Gravity Model of Trade,which depicts a positive relationship between GDP and trade volume.After fitting this model.Iuse its derived elasticity to estimate the impact of the 2020 GDP contraction on trade.Myanalysis predicts that the pandemic-inducedrecession would substantially hurt trade for Sub-Saharan African countries,therefore diminishing many ofthe derived benefits ofthe AGOA trade agreement.

2.Describing Patterns and Estimating the Production Function of Medical Systems among OECD Countries

Abstract

Our research study collected data on various hospital inputs-such as number of hospital beds,machines,physicians,and nurses -and the hospital output in terms of total patient days from the OECD database.Using the data we collected,we analyzed the effect each hospital input had on the hospital output using a Cobb-Douglas Production Function and linear regression. By analyzing the output elasticity,or coefficients,of the function,we discovered that the number of hospital beds contributes the most to the number of hospital days: around twice the contribution that physicians make to hospital output.Moreover,the number of machines and nurses in hospitals did seem not to have a strong impact on the hospital output,or hospital days.Therefore,we came to the conclusion that countries that want to increase hospital output,or hospital capacity,should invest in more hospital beds,rather than machinery.Countries without adequate hospital workforce should also invest in physicians,rather than nurses,to increase hospital output.These results can be very crucial in helping countries prepare for the next pandemic, where increasing the hospital capacity will be of paramount importance.
