They say education can take you places and here at SAS we live that expression literally and figurately. Middle School Music teacher Andrew Melton recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia, where he visited the holy city of Lalibela, while there he was inspired by the beautiful bells made of stone that are used in the most important ceremonies. He knew that he had to turn that idea into a band piece.

人們常說，教育可以讓人去往任何地方。在上海美國學校，我們一直在積極踐行這一點。上海美國學校的音樂老師Andrew Melton最近前往埃塞俄比亞，參觀了圣城拉利貝拉。在那里，有許多石頭做成的美麗石鐘，這些石鐘被用于最重要的儀式。受到這些石鐘的啟發，他知道自己應當譜一首樂隊樂曲了。

Fast forward to September 2019 at the 3rdAnnual Shanghai Regional Middle SchoolHonor Band Festival where over 80 students from various schools across Shanghai and China came together for an all-day immersive band experience.

時間很快來到2019年9月，在第三屆上海地區中學榮譽樂隊節上，來自上海和全國多所學校的八十多位學生齊聚一堂，進行了一整天的樂隊音樂體驗。

Students learn multiple new pieces of music and rehearse for over sevenhours to perform later that evening. Mr. Melton’s piece “The Stone Bells of Lalibela” was among those compositions, proving that education can take you places you may have not gone yet.

學生們學習了好幾首新樂曲，排練了七個多小時，以進行當晚的表演。Melton先生譜寫的樂曲《The Stone Bells of Lalibela》就是當晚表演的曲目之一，體現了教育可以讓人去往自己未曾去過的地方的立意。
