This week the Grade 5 students had the opportunity to experience a day in Grade 6 as part of Bridging Week. During this day, the Grade 5 students shadowed a Grade 6 buddy in order to see first-hand what a normal day in Secondary school is like. In this way, they get to know how the Grade 6 schedule works, they take part in the different classes there are, and they experience the various routines that are part of the day-to-day life of a Secondary student.
One of the biggest differences between Elementary and Secondary is the number of teachers and classes they have in a day. While shadowing their Grade 6 buddies, the Grade 5 students can learn how to manage their schedule, so they know where to go making sure they are on time and have all the materials they require. During Bridging Week, the Grade 5 students get to go to the specialized labs that we have in Secondary for Design and Science. This is usually a highlight of their day. In addition, this week provides an opportunity for both Grade 6 teachers and Grade 5 students to get to know each other.
All in all, Bridging Week introduces Secondary school life to the Grade 5 students in a reassuring way.
