美國本科三大申請系統
考慮到大部分學生和家長對于這三個系統并不熟悉,我先把這三個系統的基本情況做了一個總結,請參考以下表格:
一般情況下,我們在會優先把公共申請系統和加州系統的主文書先完成,即一篇650字文書+4篇350字文書,因為幾乎所有的學生都會需要完成這幾篇文書內容,先做出來肯定能派上用場,再看看聯合申請系統里面的學校有沒有自己確定要申的,如果有,再完成那篇主文書。

表格里面的完成時間是一個常規推薦完成進度安排,每個學生根據自己的情況肯定都會有所調整,關于最后一項內容「學校報告」,可能有部分家長學生未曾了解,可以參考我之前的推文——美國大學怎么考察申請學生的高中質量。

Q2?The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Q4?Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
描述一個你已經解決的問題或者你想要解決的問題。這個問題可以是一個對智力和思想的考驗、一個研究課題、一個道德難題 -- 不論問題大小,只要它對你來說很重要就行。請解釋這個問題對你的意義,也講述一下你采取了什么步驟(或打算采取什么步驟)來解決這個問題。
Q5?Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

Q6?Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

每個人都用有創造力,而創造力能通過很多種方式展現出來:解決問題、創新思維、藝術創作等等。描述一下你是如何展現自己的創造力的。

Q1?Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
講一個你生活中的故事,描述一段展示或者塑造了你的性格的經歷。
Q2?Describe a time when you made a meaningful contribution to others in which the greater good was your focus. Discuss the challenges and rewards of making your contribution.
你有沒有舍小家為大家的為他人做出過貢獻?講一講那個時候的經歷,也說一說做這個貢獻時遇到的困難和它給你帶來的收獲。
Q3?Has there been a time when you’ve had a long-cherished or accepted belief challenged? How did you respond? How did the challenge affect your beliefs?
你有沒有過自己長久以來接受的想法被挑戰的經歷?你是如何應對的?這個挑戰如何影響你的想法?

在之前留學咨詢工作中,總會有學生和家長問「什么樣的文書是好文書」,「某某學校喜歡什么樣的學生」之類的問題,說實話這些問題都很難有標準答案,總結建議:
1. 以自己為主,先不要考慮學校的問題,
2. 好文書的三個層次:語言有美感、看得出段落層次的鋪陳設計;有故事情節,有情感支撐;有深刻的思想內涵引起讀者的思考和啟示。
3. 早點開始準備,文書比你想象中更費時間。
