申請心得——英國曼徹斯特大學(xué)(The University of Manchester)
特別感謝重慶工商大學(xué)2015級工程管理優(yōu)秀畢業(yè)生劉嬌同學(xué)提供英國留學(xué)資訊。在我印象中,她是一個特別有想法的女生,從大一開始就已經(jīng)有了出國留學(xué)的規(guī)劃,并且為這個目標不斷努力直到實現(xiàn)。通過平時上課,我發(fā)現(xiàn)她也特別喜歡和老師交流,溝通起來很順暢,而且悟性極高。我在指導(dǎo)她畢業(yè)論文時發(fā)現(xiàn),她的理解能力和寫作能力也非常好,最終畢業(yè)論文獲得了優(yōu)秀等級。
讓我們跟著這位學(xué)姐一起,了解一下大學(xué)應(yīng)該如何規(guī)劃好留學(xué)夢以及英國曼徹斯特大學(xué)的留學(xué)信息吧!
2015年9月,作為一名大學(xué)新生,我滿懷好奇進入重慶工商大學(xué)。剛上大學(xué)的我跟許多同學(xué)一樣對未來充滿了迷茫和未知。但是大一上期的一門叫大學(xué)生職業(yè)規(guī)劃的課程給我?guī)砹烁淖?。在這門課程上,我第一次試著根據(jù)我認為自己喜歡的方向為自己做了一次詳細的職業(yè)規(guī)劃,雖然后來的發(fā)展方向跟當時規(guī)劃的完全不一樣,可這卻讓我意識到我不能再迷茫和不知所措,我應(yīng)該要開始為自己的未來做一個計劃了。大一下期,我參加了學(xué)校組織和第三方機構(gòu)組織的歷時7天的香港企業(yè)學(xué)習(xí)之行。說實話,去到香港學(xué)習(xí)的公司我并沒有學(xué)到太多的專業(yè)知識,但是我卻被香港這個城市深深震驚了,我看到了它多元的文化,感受到了國際化的魅力,接觸到了來自不同國家和不同地方的佼佼者,我想像他們一樣優(yōu)秀,像他們一樣每天在一個國際化的環(huán)境中工作,因此我心中便萌發(fā)了出國留學(xué)的想法。
對于普通家庭而言,出國留學(xué)并不是一件容易的事。從香港回到內(nèi)地,經(jīng)過自己深思熟慮,我把自己的想法告訴了爸媽。爸媽知道后表示非常支持。在這里,我想提醒各位有出國留學(xué)想法的小伙伴,出國留學(xué)不是你一個人的事,請一定要自己思考清楚后再與父母商量并獲得支持之后再進一步做準備。
各位申請出國留學(xué)的同學(xué)都應(yīng)該知道,申請最首要的就是大學(xué)四年的平均績點。為了讓自己的平均績點盡量高一些,我從大二開始更加重視自己的GPA,重視自己的專業(yè)表現(xiàn),參與了很多專業(yè)相關(guān)的活動。其次就是語言成績,希望各位有報班想法的小伙伴一定要先自己多考察,其實有很多線上的網(wǎng)課比線下的一對一教學(xué)更好,當然這也看個人的學(xué)習(xí)體驗。就我個人而言,備考雅思或者托福,最好選擇一段連續(xù)的時間,讓自己更加專心的學(xué)習(xí),這樣考過的機會也更大一些。再者,就是其他加分能力,比如實習(xí)經(jīng)歷,獲獎經(jīng)歷,學(xué)術(shù)經(jīng)歷(如課題研究,創(chuàng)業(yè)活動等),志愿者經(jīng)歷等能夠體現(xiàn)出自己的專業(yè)實踐能力。這些經(jīng)歷越多越好,經(jīng)歷的越豐富才更能體現(xiàn)出自身的能力,才能讓自己更有競爭力,從而才能讓學(xué)校更多的關(guān)注你。
做好前面的一系列準備之后,在大四上期(2018年11月份中旬)申請了香港和英國的諸多高校,2019年1月18號收到曼大offer,經(jīng)過比較和選擇,最終選擇了曼大。建議大家在申請的時候,多給自己一些選擇,盡量多申請一些學(xué)校,不要孤注一擲。
剛來到曼城,感覺這個城市并沒有我想象得那樣好。慢慢地,等我開始融入到這個城市和曼大的生活中后,我發(fā)現(xiàn)這里的人其實挺和善和友好的。但是在學(xué)習(xí)方面就讓我有很大的不適應(yīng)了。因為習(xí)慣了國內(nèi)大學(xué)的填鴨式教學(xué),有時就習(xí)慣性等老師布置每天的作業(yè),而英國的教學(xué)是老師在課前就會在官網(wǎng)上掛出這門課程需要閱讀的reading list,學(xué)習(xí)全靠自覺和主動學(xué)習(xí),如果偷懶不讀的話,在課堂上就只會無言以對老師的提問,這樣不僅會造成在課上的小組討論中無話可說還會影響到自己的平時成績。所以,想要出國留學(xué)的同學(xué)們還是要有思想準備,從大學(xué)開始就轉(zhuǎn)變原來高中的學(xué)習(xí)方法和態(tài)度,畢竟你要拿的是研究生學(xué)位。
走過了申請的路,我也明白了這其中的酸甜苦辣,或許有時會被旁人不一樣的觀點動搖自己申請和選擇的決心,但是希望各位申請的小伙伴都能堅持初心,既然選擇了,就做好準備,有一天你想要的那封offer會驚喜的出現(xiàn)在你的郵箱里的!

2.地理位置
曼徹斯特大學(xué)坐落在世界上第一座工業(yè)化城市——英國曼徹斯特市。曼徹斯特緊鄰謝菲爾德、利物浦、利茲、布萊克浦,離英國兩大國家公園峰區(qū)和湖區(qū)也非常近。曼徹斯特的交通十分發(fā)達,是英國的交通樞紐之一,從曼城每天有數(shù)趟火車直達倫敦,全程僅需2個小時,去蘇格蘭首府愛丁堡也只要3個半小時。曼徹斯特大學(xué)附近就有可以直達曼徹斯特機場的公交和火車,火車僅二十分鐘就可以到達機場,而公交也只需要不到一小時。

We offer a number of postgraduate taught scholarships and merit awards to outstanding applicants and international students.
In addition, the Manchester Alumni Scholarship Scheme offers a £3,000 reduction in tuition fees to University of Manchester alumni who achieved a first-class Bachelors degree and are progressing to a postgraduate taught masters course.
