Woolf Essay Competition賽事簡(jiǎn)介
Newnham College Woolf Essay Prize（紐紋漢學(xué)院伍爾夫論文獎(jiǎng)）是英國(guó)一項(xiàng)面向高中12年級(jí)女性學(xué)生的年度競(jìng)賽。是一項(xiàng)聲譽(yù)極高，認(rèn)可度高的競(jìng)賽。該獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)以20世紀(jì)著名女性主義者和作家弗吉尼亞·伍爾夫（Virginia Woolf）命名。

競(jìng)賽背景
1928年，弗吉尼亞·伍爾夫（Virginia Woolf）在紐納姆藝術(shù)協(xié)會(huì)（Newnham Arts Society）就“Women and Fiction"這一主題發(fā)表演講，從這次演講中出現(xiàn)了她的開(kāi)創(chuàng)性著作《一個(gè)人的房間》（A Room of One's Own）。紐納姆為它在教育史上的地位感到非常自豪。
A Room of One's Own提出了許多關(guān)于女性在社會(huì)，文化和教育中的地位的問(wèn)題，比賽允許學(xué)生思考這些主題和想法，同時(shí)發(fā)展對(duì)大學(xué)水平學(xué)習(xí)至關(guān)重要的獨(dú)立研究和寫(xiě)作技能。這項(xiàng)競(jìng)賽可能適合那些對(duì)學(xué)習(xí)英國(guó)文學(xué)、歷史、政治、哲學(xué)或社會(huì)學(xué)特別感興趣的同學(xué)；但我們歡迎有興趣的學(xué)生參加任何科目的組合。

參賽者提交的文章需要回答所給問(wèn)題中任何一個(gè)問(wèn)題，字?jǐn)?shù)應(yīng)在 1,500 到 2,500 字之間（包括腳注和標(biāo)題）。
所有資料必須有符合規(guī)范的引用，并附上參考書(shū)目和網(wǎng)站（字?jǐn)?shù)不包括在內(nèi)）。注意！封面也必須提交。

競(jìng)賽題目
2024年
1) “It was absurd to blame any class or any sex, as a whole. Great bodies of people are never responsible for what they do.”
Evaluate the role of the individual and the collective in the emancipation of groups facing oppression, using at least two detailed examples.
2) “That woman, then, who was born with a gift of poetry in the sixteenth century, was an unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself.”
Compare and contrast the historical and contemporary challenges faced by female authors.*
3) “For genius like Shakespeare's is not born among labouring, uneducated, servile people. […] It is not born to-day among the working classes.”
Investigate the role of class in the journey to becoming a writer.*
*Any detailed examples used should not be core A-level or IB texts
2023年
1) “She had to work on equal terms with men. She made, by working very hard, enough to live ?on. The importance of that fact outweighs anything that she actually wrote, […]”.
Discuss the significance of the struggle for financial independence and equality on the place of ?women in academia or any other profession, either historical or contemporary.
2) “It would be a thousand pities if women wrote like men […] considering the vastness and ?variety of the world, how should we manage with one [sex] only?”
Using at least two examples, discuss the impact and value of the voices of women and/or gender non-conforming individuals to the literary world.
3) “The history of men's opposition to women's emancipation is more interesting perhaps than ?the story of that emancipation itself”.
Analyse the role and responsibility of men in combatting gender inequality in a specific place and ?historical period.
